The “Go-to-hell” Sport Coat

We’ve all heard of GTH (“go-to-hell”) pants.  While a pair or two have their moments in man’s wardrobe, it’s something that many guys approach very cautiously.  If you’re one of those guys, you may want to stop reading.  Because, today, I’m writing in favor of going a step further with owning a “go-to-hell” sport coat.  Wearing a brightly colored jacket, or perhaps one with a loud plaid print to it, is no different from donning those GTH pants.  Anchor the look with simple and subdued pieces, and let the sport coat speak for itself.  And yes, it does take a bit of confidence to wear a GTH jacket because you are essentially “peacocking” yourself around and you will garner attention.  But done the right way, it’s a look that can be unbeatable.  Just don’t wear your GTH jacket with some GTH pants… lest you could end up with your picture on Nice Try, Bro.

This will be perfect for peacocking around this summer…

1901 “Saddle Up” Oxford

While saddle shoes are one of the most classic styles one can wear, they also give the opportunity to go a little crazy with some fun colors.  Nordstrom’s 1901 “Saddle Up” Oxford is one of the best examples of this.  The shoe is offfered in four very different color combinations, all with a “red brick” color rubber sole.  The uppers are both suede and nubuck.  And, as with all shoes from 1901, the price is very affordable at just under $100.  I’m really liking the grey and navy combo…

These shoes are perfect “Go to Hell” shoes for spring.

An Appreciation for the Bold Sport Coat

Not much to say on this subject… it’s pretty self-explanatory.  There is certainly a time and place for the bold sport coat, and it can really set one apart in one of the best ways, sartorially.  As always, fit is key.  Details are right there behind fit.  This particular chambray sport coat from J. Press has the right details: 3/2 roll, cream colored buttons, and a contrasting white stitching around the buttonholes.  If you’re going to go all out with being bold, do it right.

Being bold is always perfect.
